Good afternoon SJA families  We started our day with reading buddies ...    Math:  Today in Math we continued practicing multiplying decimals and dividing decimals. Students had a chance to explore the math problems together and come up to answer questions on the white board. Students have expressed the interest in showing the decimals using the base ten blocks.   Math questions have been assigned on page 145 #1,2,3 and page 62+63 also a practice worksheet has been given for practice.  Inquiry into Language: The majority of the class completed their good copy of their speech over this week. Today, they spent part of their morning practicing so that they could memorize their speech. We went over a few helpful tips to remember when trying to memorize their speech. Students have been sent home with speeches so that they can have them memorized for Wednesday. The grade 4 in class competition will be held  February 4th/5th.

Students had a chance to explore the math problems together and come up to answer questions on the white board.  Math questions have been assigned on page 137 #1,2,4,5 and page 53+54 in the workbook due tomorrow.  Inquiry into Language: The majority of the class completed their good copy of their speech over the weekend. Today, they spent part of their morning practicing so that they could memorize their speech. We went over a few helpful tips to remember when trying to memorize their speech: The grade 4 in class competition will be held  February 4th/5th. The Annual Oral Competition for grades 4 - 8 will be held o n Friday, February 7th.  All speeches need to be memorized and should be within 3 - 5 minutes.  Today we had a very special guest join us. Good afternoon SJA families  Happy Monday and congratulations to Rayen! He is our new star of the week...  Math:  Today in Math we looked at rounding decimals and adding decimals. Students had a chance to come up and answer math questions before we began our lesson to see how far and just how much they know about ordering and rounding decimals. Good Afternoon Parents,  The Grade 1 Farmer's Market: Today we supported the grade 1s during their summative task, the Farmer's Market. Thank you grade 1s for putting on such a fun and healthy event!  Inquiry into Math: Today the grade 4s learned how to order and compare decimals. We used number lines to help make connections between decimals and our base 10 blocks. Some times it can be a little confusing when it comes to ordering decimals because some decimals look so similar to others. For example: 0.1, 0.05, 0.12 - when ordering decimals from greatest to least (or least to greatest) things can be made easier by making equivalent decimals. So change 0.1 to 0.10! Now we can easily order our decimals from greatest to least without any confusion:  0.12, 0.1, 0.05 Inquiry into Language: Spelling Lesson 17 -  Don't forget, there is a spelling test tomorrow.
