Good afternoon SJA parents! 


Today we had a new Star of the Week!! Congratulations Justin !!!




Today in language  the grade 4s continued to work on their speeches. Most students have now finished the rough draft and are not working on good copy writing. Here are a few things that we considered during our conferencing period: 
- proper punctuation, sentence structure, and grammar
- voice and style - develop a distinct tone the sets your writing/speech apart from others
- defining unknown terms - help your audience develop their vocabulary 
- descriptive language - don't give all the details away, build up to it, make it exciting/interesting
- formatting - in order to meet the time requirement (3-5 mins) consider the length of each paragraph 

The grade 4s are encouraged to visit their local library to collect books, videos, etc. that will help them to continue to develop their speech. Please ensure that your child brings any research materials in order to continue working on their speech. 
We continued working onspelling lesson 17 today and we also worked on grammar lesson 7
Grade 4: Words ending with y: adding er and est 
Grade 5: prefixes sub, mid,bi, and tri 
Tip: adjectives ending in er compare two things, adjectives ending in est compare three or more things 

To add er or est to an adjective that ends in y, change the y to I first 

Ex. Happy + er = happiest  
Happy + est = happiest  
Tip: sub – usually means under, below, or not quite  
Mid – means in the middle or part 
Bi – usually means two 
Tri – usually mean three  

Ex. Subside, midday, bisect, tripod 



Today the grade 4s continued our study of Islam. Today we made notes on Origins of Islam and also did an activity about Ramada. Check us out below.

Just a reminder that the SJA re-registration process is underway. To reserve your child’s 2020-2021 place at St. Jude’s Academy, complete and return your child’s re-registration forms and payment to Reception by Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 4:00 pm.

After this date and time, any available grade-level spaces will be open to new families on waitlists.

In addition, the deadline for our  priority enrolment into our JK Program is Friday, January 17, 2020, a letter is attached with more information.

Mr. Foster’s Farmers Market and Ms. Gandy’s Groceries

As part of their summative assessment the grade one classes have decided to open a market to complement their organization unit. The market will include fruits, vegetables, drinks and other healthy snacks. It will be held in rooms 12 and 18. The market will take place all day Thursday, January 23rd and Friday, January 24th. All profits made will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House

Good afternoon SJA families  We started our day with reading buddies ...    Math:  Today in Math we continued practicing multiplying decimals and dividing decimals. Students had a chance to explore the math problems together and come up to answer questions on the white board. Students have expressed the interest in showing the decimals using the base ten blocks.   Math questions have been assigned on page 145 #1,2,3 and page 62+63 also a practice worksheet has been given for practice.  Inquiry into Language: The majority of the class completed their good copy of their speech over this week. Today, they spent part of their morning practicing so that they could memorize their speech. We went over a few helpful tips to remember when trying to memorize their speech. Good afternoon SJA parents Today the grade 4s began their Data Management Assignment. They conducted a survey about the religious demographic of students and teachers in grades 1-5. For this assignment, the grade 4s are being challenged to collect data, create graphs, and interpret their findings using concepts and terminology learned throughout the unit. This is a two day assignment, so the grade 4s will have the opportunity to complete their assignment tomorrow.  Today in language   the grade 4s will continued to work on their speeches. Hello SJA parents! Inquiry into Math: Today the grade 4's continued working on a math review. We have reviewed some of our math questions and added some new notes to our math wall.. we have now completed the Show What You Know review from the textbook and began working on our math review worksheets (questions 1-4 have been assigned). Reminder our math test will be on Thursday.  Inquiry into Language: Today in language We discussed chapter 28 as a class and 29 and 30 have been assigned for homework. I have gone over all the worksheets that should be done by now in our Ghosts in the Churchyard package and we have reviewed the missing worksheets that will be assigned this week. Today I assigned the "character card" worksheet that goes along with chapters 28-30. The Ghosts in the Churchyard package will be collected and is expected to be completed in full by Friday.  We also have worked on spelling lesson 23 - our spelling test ...
