Good afternoon SJA families 
Math: 

Today in Math we continued practicing adding decimals as well as we began learning how to subtract decimals. Students had a chance to explore the math problems together and come up to answer questions on the white board. 
Math questions have been assigned on page 137 #1,2,4,5 and page 53+54 in the workbook due tomorrow. 
Inquiry into Language:

The majority of the class completed their good copy of their speech over the weekend. Today, they spent part of their morning practicing so that they could memorize their speech. We went over a few helpful tips to remember when trying to memorize their speech:

The grade 4 in class competition will be held February 4th/5th.

The Annual Oral Competition for grades 4 - 8 will be held on Friday, February 7th. All speeches need to be memorized and should be within 3 - 5 minutes. 
Today we had a very special guest join us. Michael D, who is an on air radio broadcaster talked to the grade 4's about the fundamentals of presenting a good speech. He connected with the grade 4's sharing his experiences and how he has to write scripts for the radio every weekend. He also provided the grade 4's with many tips to prevent them from feeling nervous and connecting with the audience. Unit Of Inquiry:

Today the class began working on their summatives for their unit: Who we are. Students were given their summative packages as a point of reference as they work their way through their assignment. Just a friendly reminder that all summative materials are to be provided by the students. Summative tasks will be due Friday January 31st.

Spelling is due Friday as we do not have a test this week

Just a reminder that the SJA re-registration process is underway. To reserve your child's 2020-2021 place at St. Jude's Academy, complete and return your child's re-registration forms and payment to reception by Tuesday, February 18th, 2020 at 4:00 pm. 

After this date and time, any available grade-level spaces will be open to new families on the wait list. 

In addition, the deadline for our priority enrolment into our JK Program is Friday, January 17th, 2020. If you have any questions regarding the forms or next steps, please contact our Admissions Team.

Good afternoon SJA parents Today the grade 4s began their Data Management Assignment. They conducted a survey about the religious demographic of students and teachers in grades 1-5. For this assignment, the grade 4s are being challenged to collect data, create graphs, and interpret their findings using concepts and terminology learned throughout the unit. This is a two day assignment, so the grade 4s will have the opportunity to complete their assignment tomorrow.  Today in language   the grade 4s will continued to work on their speeches. Some students have begun their third paragraph (subtopic 2).
