Covid -19 Updates
Hello and Good
Morning Everyone,
As you are now
aware, St. Jude’s Academy will be closed for the next two weeks due to
COVID-19. As we try to alleviate the spread of the virus, we understand that
situations such as these can make things a little more unpredictable than we
would like them to be. At St. Jude’s, we take pride in the fact that we are a
close-knit and caring community. In response to COVID-19 we are actively
working to ensure the health and safety of everyone while continuing to educate
and support our students. We want to ensure that our students will not be
impacted by the unfolding events. We will continue to provide education to our
students via an online classroom set up after March Break and up until April 5,
2020. Our school building is closed, but education will continue in an online
format.
The grade 4 team
will post our daily blogs by 9 am. Our blogs will describe the learning
expectations and activities for each day. To make this possible, it is required
that your child creates a Gmail account to allow for collaboration between
peers and teachers using Google apps. We are also asking that your child
register for the online classroom app Discord. They will need to create an
account login and password; this app can be downloaded on desktops, laptops,
iPad, tablets and cellular devices. This app allows us to manage our virtual
classroom! The app allows teacher to student communication, as well as student
to student communication. Once the app has been downloaded please be sure to
create the username with students first name and initial of last name (for
example sara_d). Once this has been done please be sure to click to join s_dimascio's
server. Please use the following link to join our class https://discord.gg/FgJgZJ Classes will resume
online on Monday, March 23, 2020 and will run up until Sunday, April
5, 2020.

The daily French
lessons will be outlined and detailed in the daily blog posts. The aim is to
try to deliver them as close to our regular class lessons as possible. The
learning goals will be shared daily along with the explanation and instructions
in both English and French for everyone’s convenience. Pictures of what will
need to be done by the students will be shared as examples. Worksheets, when
necessary, will be provided as well as answer keys. Parents may contact me via
email at rhamieh@stjudesacademy.com and send pictures
of their children’s work for feedback and may also request a phone conversation
when needed. I will join Mrs Di Mascio's Discord classroom on Wednesday's
and Friday's between 10:20 am and 11:00 am to answer any
questions that the students may have.

Hello everyone! I
will be available online in my Discord classroom every Tuesday and Thursday at
10:20-11:00am. We will be working on a combination between music theory,
rhythm, note reading etc. and preparations for our performance of Mary Poppins.
I will be live streaming a digital white board, lyrics and/or videos during
these times so if you are able it would be great if you could attend digitally.
I am looking forward to this new and interesting challenge and as always, am
available by email at omanning@stjudesacademy.com if you have any
further questions.

Hello everyone! Although teaching and learning from home
is not ideal, it does allow students the opportunity to learn and apply skills
outside a classroom. Physical Education is going to be an ongoing process that
allows students to complete hands-on tasks at varied times of the day. These
tasks and activities will fall under two main categories: health and physical
activity. It is known that daily physical activity is important for strong
overall health and students will be expected to complete at least 30 minutes of
physical activity a day for Phys. Ed. Students will need to record the
activities they completed either on the calendar I will provide, or in a format
that works for them. This information will then be signed by a parent. In
regard to health activities, they will be found on classroom teacher’s blogs
and my Discord classroom at the beginning of the week for students to complete
throughout the week and submit to me on Fridays by email. I will also be
uploading links and videos of activities and ideas to keep students moving and
active on my Discord classroom which I have linked below. I am hoping everyone
can stay active and healthy throughout this stressful period and I’m here to
help with that as much as possible. Please join my online Discord classroom
with the link below or I am available by email at torr@stjudesacademy.com if
you have any further questions.

We understand that
this is a difficult and stressful time, while we are here to continue educating
your child, the goal is not to simply get through the curriculum, but to make
this process as personal as possible. We understand that it may be a bit of a
challenge understanding the concepts across each subject, but we are here to be
flexible and to make this transition as simple and enjoyable as possible. We
would like to invite all parents and students to attend a 9 am session on
Monday, March the 23rd in our discord classroom where we will go
over any questions you may have and we will review what the schedule and
expectations will be for the next two weeks. Attached to this email is a
tentative schedule; we are aiming to give the students as much time as possible
to grasp concepts and to work on what they have learned. And when the work is
done, read, read, read! We can use this time to become more fluent and
expressive readers! Daily Raz Kids books will be assigned. Also, take this time
to play, create, and explore especially with our Rocks and Minerals Unit of
Inquiry!
*** Please keep in
mind not all worksheets need to be printed, Students can copy questions from
the blog into a notebook and answer accordingly or answer them directly on the
worksheet online however, If you do not have access to a printer at home and
would like a printed copy of the worksheets, please reach out to me in a
separate email no later than Sunday March 22nd by 12 noon and
arrangements will be made ***
This is all new to
me as it is to all of you, as always I will be available via email at sdimascio@stjudesacademy.com please feel free
to send pictures of your child's work for feedback and I am also open to a
phone conversation when needed. I will continue to support you and your child
as best I can. I look forward to a new adventure and challenge ahead!
Stay safe everyone,
Mrs Di Mascio
