Day 2

As we enter into the month of February and begin to learn about the importance of black history month, I have added quotes to our reading corner that are important for students to become familiar with.





Inquiry into Math:


Today in Math we continue to work on our unit about decimals. Today students completed the first unit review and worked through some word problems to practice decimals multiplying and dividing. New posters have been added to our math wall to help students follow along. 

 *** OUR MATH TEST WILL TAKE PLACE THIS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY **** 



Inquiry into Language:


The majority of the class completed their good copy of their speech over this week. Today, they spent part of our language period practicing so that they could memorize their speech. Students have been sent home with speeches so that they can have them memorized for Wednesday.

The grade 4 in class competition will be held Wednesday 5th.



The Annual Oral Competition for grades 4 - 8 will be held on Friday, February 7th. All speeches need to be memorized and should be within 3 - 5 minutes. 
As a resource for students, I have given out individual dictionaries that they can keep in their own binders at school and use them to help with spelling of unfamiliar words. 

Students also worked on spelling lesson 19 today .. spelling is due Wednesday and test will be Friday

Unit Of Inquiry:

Today the class continued working on their summatives for their unit: Who we are. Students were given their summative packages as a point of reference as they work their way through their assignment. Just a friendly reminder that all summative materials are to be provided by the students. Summative tasks will be NOW DUE ON Tuesday February 4.

Dear SJA Lower School (JK to Grade 6) Families,
An annual event in the Lower School is our highly anticipated Year-Ahead Day. Students look forward to this fun tradition at St. Jude’s Academy where they get to skip ahead and spend the day in the next grade. Teachers will let students know who their Year-Ahead Day teacher is at the end of day on Friday, February 7, 2020. 
Please note that the placement for this day does not indicate class placement for the following school year.

Dear SJA Families,


Just a reminder that the SJA re-registration process is underway. To reserve your child's 2020-2021 place at St. Jude's Academy, complete and return your child's re-registration forms and payment to reception by Tuesday, February 18th, 2020 at 4:00 pm. 

After this date and time, any available grade-level spaces will be open to new families on the wait list. 

In addition, the deadline for our priority enrolment into our JK Program is Friday, January 17th, 2020. If you have any questions regarding the forms or next steps, please contact our Admissions Team.

Good afternoon SJA families  We started our day with reading buddies ...    Math:  Today in Math we continued practicing multiplying decimals and dividing decimals. Students had a chance to explore the math problems together and come up to answer questions on the white board. Good afternoon SJA parents Today the grade 4s began their Data Management Assignment. They conducted a survey about the religious demographic of students and teachers in grades 1-5. For this assignment, the grade 4s are being challenged to collect data, create graphs, and interpret their findings using concepts and terminology learned throughout the unit. This is a two day assignment, so the grade 4s will have the opportunity to complete their assignment tomorrow.  Today in language   the grade 4s will continued to work on their speeches. Some students have begun their third paragraph (subtopic 2). Hello SJA parents! Inquiry into Math: Today the grade 4's continued working on a math review. We have reviewed some of our math questions and added some new notes to our math wall.. we have now completed the Show What You Know review from the textbook and began working on our math review worksheets (questions 1-4 have been assigned). Reminder our math test will be on Thursday.  Inquiry into Language: Today in language We discussed chapter 28 as a class and 29 and 30 have been assigned for homework. I have gone over all the worksheets that should be done by now in our Ghosts in the Churchyard package and we have reviewed the missing worksheets that will be assigned this week. Today I assigned the "character card" worksheet that goes along with chapters 28-30.
