Day 3

Good afternoon SJA Families !

Today in math we explored measuring and constructing angles. We now know that angles are named based on the size. An Acute angle is one that is smaller than 90 degrees, a Right is one that is at 90 degrees and an Obtuse angle is one that is greater than 90 degrees. Today the grade 4's had a chance to look at how we use a protractor and also how we draw angles. Homework was assigned on page 86 of the textbook #1,2 and 4 and on page 38 and 39 of the textbook.

In Language today we started our new novel!!! Ghosts in the churchyard was a huge success and the class was excited to keep reading this medieval mystery novel! A new language package has been given to students for them to review and begin to complete. The package is broken up into different worksheets, some that require more written components, others that are more hands on and some that are even all about art and design, By working through the package as we read the novel we will begin to not only better understand what we are reading but we will also be able to keep track of what new words we are learning and what new terms we can add to our dictionary !
For homework I have asked the students to create an alternate cover page to the novel. Students have also been give the "old world, new words chart" where they can add all the new words they have discovered while reading the novel. These words will be added to our language wall daily so that by the end we will have a full definitions of any new medieval words we learn. The last page that I assigned was the illustrator predictions. Students are asked to create a prediction based on the illustrations in each chapter before they read the chapter. This is will be done for every chapter as we read on.

Today we also took some time to continue to read on about Black History Month and we looked at the story of Martin Luther King Jr and his significance in history and what he stood for. We read a story about his life and what lead him to his "I have a dream speech". We also watched part of his speech and will be writing a response to 'If you could say anything to Martin Luther King Jr what would it be and why?' in our language journal. This will be due on Tuesday once we return from Family day long weekend. A reminder that our spelling test will be tomorrow !
